The perfect end to a spring evening is experiencing intimate concert moments in Edvard Grieg’s living room, where he often accompanied his wife on the piano. In the mornings, talented young musicians give recitals in the concert hall built
in Grieg’s garden. Large windows form the backdrop, giving a glimpse of Grieg’s composer’s hut by the water.
TROLDHAUGEN – The home of Edvard and Nina Grieg – was referred to by Grieg himself as his best opus so far, and can indeed be a revealing study of his ideas and personality. In 1985, a hundred years after Grieg moved into Troldhaugen, the chamber music hall Troldsalen was opened. While enjoying the excellent acoustics of this concert hall, audiences can appreciate a superb view through the glass wall behind the performers, overlooking Grieg’s composing hut and the lake beyond. Over the years several generations of artists have performed at the legendary festival concerts in Grieg’s Villa and Troldsalen.
