Conductor and pianist Alexander Soddy was born in 1982, and was educated at Magdalen College in Oxford, the Royal Academy of Music and at Selwyn College in Cambridge. After graduating he was appointed as repetiteur and conductor by the National Opera Studio in London. He has worked as a repetiteur and conductor for opera studios both in the UK and Germany. In the years 2008–2010, Soddy conducted the Hamburger Staatsoper International Opera Studio in Cavallis La Calisto and contemporary operas by Christian Jost and John Tavener. During this time he collaborated with renowned opera singers such as Deborah Polaski and Placido Domingo. As a pianist, he has performed at venues across Europe, as well as British venues such as the Wigmore Hall and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. During last year’s season, Soddy made his debut with the Bayerische Staatsoper and Staatsoper Unter den Linden with The Magic Flute, the same work he conducted at his debut in the main house of the Hamburger Staatsoper.
