The Engegård Quartet was formed under the midnight sun in Lofoten in 2006, and performed at the Bergen Festival and the Oslo Chamber Music Festival in their very first season. The quartet’s debut CD was critically acclaimed both in Norway and internationally. Their second release won the ‘Supersonic Award’ in the music magazine Pizzicato. The Engegård Quartet has also released a CD of the complete works for quartet by Catharinus Elling with Simax. The great quartets of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Bartók are the Engegård Quartet’s core repertoire. With their Nordic background, it is natural for them to include Edvard Grieg, Arne Nordheim and Jean Sibelius in their programmes. The enterprising spirit of the members of the Quartet is evident in their partnerships with celebrated colleagues including Leif Ove Andsnes, Frans Helmerson and Nobuko Imai. Arvid Engegård is the creator and Artistic Director of the Lofoten International Chamber Music Festival, and the festival is a regular fixture in the Quartet’s summer.
The festival receives government grants from:Arts Council Norway, City of Bergen and Hordaland county.
