Arve Tellefsen is possibly Norway’s most well-known and popular violinist.
He studied at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music and in New York. Tellefsen was 1st concert master in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1970–73 and in Die Wiener Symphoniker from 1975–77. He was Norway’s first professor of violin at the Norwegian Academy of Music and founded Oslo Chamber Music Festival in 1989. He has received a number of prizes. When the Ole Bull Prize was awarded for the first time in 2004, Tellefsen was the undisputed winner. ‘Arve Tellefsen is the Ole Bull of our time. Not only is he a superb performing musician, but he also expresses the very spirit of Ole Bulls music and thinking’, said the jury. Recently a new edition of «Arve Tellefsen plays Ole Bull» was released.
