DalaSinfoniettan is a Swedish ensemble, formed in 1988. Since its beginning, the orchestra has been an important part of Dalarna’s cultural development.
DalaSinfoniettan consists of 28 full-time musicians. As the official county orchestra, they are commissioned to play about 70 concerts annually in the region of Dalarna. The artistic profile of the orchestra is to present new perspectives; whether it is in a traditional chamber orchestra repertoire, presenting music written by Swedish composers or in crossover concerts within jazz, folk music or popular music. DalaSinfoniettan is hosting the chamber music festival Winter Festival with Martin Frost as the creative director, and also performs concerts in Dalhalla every summer. DalaSinfoniettan has made several recordings, including recordings with the jazz ensemble Peter Asplund Quartet and opera singer Hillevi Martinpelto. A string of Nordic Violin Favourites with Henning Kraggerud has recently been recorded.
