EFA, the European Festivals Association, celebrates the 60th anniversary of its founding at the 2012 Bergen International Festival.
With a Jubilee Gala, EFA celebrates its 60th anniversary on 23 and 24 May 2012 in Bergen, Norway, hosted and co-organised by the Bergen International Festival. On 25 May, the EFA General Assembly takes place.
95 member festivals, 13 national festivals associations and 3 cultural networks from 40 countries join forces with festivals around the world to celebrate, commemorate and discuss the current state and future of arts festivals in the world.
The European Festivals Association is the oldest cultural network in Europe, founded in 1952, and has grown from 15 founding members to 111 festivals today.
“The Association will enable us to create a real European community, a united Europe. A common cultural basis means no uniformity, though, it is a unity of diversity and this principle allows European culture to engage in a fruitful dialogue with other cultures,” Denis de Rougemont said when founding EFA together with composer Igor Markevitch.
