Concert with A Filetta: Passione

With its sacred songs from Corsica the male voice choir A Filetta creates polyphonic magic with no other aids than their considerable and beautiful vocal skills.

In Corsica the attitude to death is complex and ever-present. Death is harrowing, but it is a unifying, bonding element. It reconciles, reminds us of our fragile existence and conjures up visions of eternity. Through the centuries the singing tradition has mostly developed around repertoire associated with the Passion of Christ and funeral liturgy, and over the last thirty years vocal ensembles have come to Corsica to perform traditional requiems for large audiences.

A Filetta bring the vocal treasures of the island alive, but refuse to treat the music as a museum item. They collaborate with composers and other vocal ensembles and cultivate the concept of an extended, revitalised, open tradition.

The Bergen International Festival programme consists of traditional songs from Corsican masses, Georgian songs and A Filetta’s own archives.
