Below you’ll find a description and overview of the various tasks volunteers can choose from during this year's Festival.
Please choose more than one assignment, as each task can already be accounted for when you apply. This also allows us to combine different tasks. Please note that the work groups in the submission/registration form are in Norwegian, but you can find the description of the tasks in English here.
Audience hosts (no: Publikumsverter)
Do you want to be the face of the festival?
This group consists of volunteers who work to assist the audience at the various arenas. Working hours may vary in line with the duration of the performance, but it is expected that each volunteer will be working between 20 and 25 hours during the festival. If you have any requests regarding performances you wish to work at, please let us know when you apply (a maximum of three wishes per volunteer). We cannot guarantee that all wishes will be granted, but we operate under the principle of first come first serve. We need approximately 100 volunteers in this group.
Artist hosts (no: Artistkontakt)
Are you social and know both Bergen and the festival well?
This job is about making sure the artists that are visiting the festival from around the world is well taken care of. You will be a contact person between the artist and the festival. It’s important to have good knowledge of the festival and Bergen City. You must be fairly flexible as the work assignments can come at short notice. If you speak many languages, please let us know in the registration form, as this sometimes is a crucial factor when we pick out the different artist hosts. Volunteers that have had this job before is encouraged to apply again. If you have never had this job before but want to try, send a mail to lars(a)fib.no We need about 15 volunteers in this group.
Production and programming department assistants
Runners (no: Løpevakter PP):
Are you versatile and quick on your feet?
The main job for the volunteers in this group is to be ready for action when needed. During your shifts, you will be situated in our office and help out where needed. Examples of job assignments: assist in productions in our different venues, deliver tickets and other small materials around the city centre (a bike will be available if you wish to use one), help set up the office for events and step in for other volunteers if we are short on staff and some audience counting. The shifts are longer than many of the other shifts, seven hours, but you will get breaks and free lunch. Each volunteer in this group will work three shifts; there are day shifts and evening shifts. We need about 14 volunteers in this group.
Catering (no: Catering):
Do you have a passion for food?
As part of the catering group, you will help with supplying artists and crew with food, fruit and drinks during the festival. You will not be asked to make the food, but to assist the catering personnel in distributing it. You will work with other volunteers and the catering crew. The shift duration will be between 09:00-14:00 from the 22th of May until the last day, 6h of June. We need 6 volunteers in this group.
Information stand (no: Informasjonsstand):
Are you outgoing and up-to-date on what’s going on at the festival?
Every year the festival has its own information stand in the city centre. The volunteers working here will be responsible for handing out festival packs and other materials, be available for questions from the audience, volunteers and press to help them get in touch with the right people within the organization. The shifts lasts for about 3 hours both before and after noon throughout the duration of the festival. We need 4 volunteers in this group.
Artist receptions (no: Artistmottagelser):
Do you enjoy hosting parties?
Some nights we arrange artist receptions at our festival office, or at other arenas, and we need help with serving and catering for the guests at these receptions. We need at least 2 volunteers in this group. The shifts will be at approximately 4 hours during late evenings. This job can easily be combined with other tasks.
VR assistant (no: VR-assistent):
Are you interessted in modern technology and viritual reality
This year we're introducing a VR lounge at Grieghallen. For this we need volunteers to instruct the audience on how to use the VR equipment. So if you're interessted in modern technology this could be the perfect job for you! We will of course teach you how to use the equipment yourself before you start working. We'll need about 16 volunteers who'll work exclusivly with this.
Marketing and Communications department assistants
Runners (no: Løpevakter MK):
Are you versatile and have some knowledge of social media?
This is a varied and at times challenging job. You will be where it happens, and work closely with our staff. Examples of jobs that may occur: preparations for smaller events, deliver tickets/equipment etc. to artists and partners, and assist in preparing at the office for events taking place there. The shifts last approximately 3-4 hours during the daytime throughout the duration of the festival. If you are good at social media, there will be tasks linked to this as well. We need about 8 volunteers for this group.
Office assistant (no: kontorassistent):
Do you want to work before the festival?
Before the festival there is a lot to do at the office. Amongst the tasks will be packing and preparing information material, artist folders and festival packages. We need around 3-4 volunteers in this group. Some of these shifts will be during the daytime 4-5 days in week 19 (preparing the artist folders).
Distribution (no: Distribusjon):
Do you know Bergen well and like to walk?
The task for this job is to hang posters and distribute information material around the city. This assignment spans several days (starting a couple of weeks before the festival). The shifts last approximately 2-3 hours per day. We need around 4 volunteers for this group.
Profiling assistant (no: Profileringsassistenter):
Not afraid of a little manual labour?
The Bergen International Festival aims to be as visible as possible throughout the city. To make this happen, we need volunteers to help our profiling department with preparing and controlling our profiling in the streets and at our arenas. This job starts before the festival, and lasts the duration of the festival. The shifts will mostly be during the daytime, and lasts approximately 2-6 hours per day. We need around 2 volunteers for this group.
Festival restaurants (no: Festspillspisesteder):
Do you want to get to know how the festival affects the business sector?
For many years we have worked together with several different restaurants in Bergen. These are restaurants located close to our arenas, and sometimes even function as an arena themselves. Before the festival starts, we need a group to distribute material to the cooperative restaurants, control that they have what they need during the festival and collect the material back to us after the festival. We need about 4 volunteers for this job, it can also be combined with other jobs and be split between more volunteers.
