Håkon Thelin studied with Professor Knut Guettler at the Norwegian Academy of Music. He works extensively in European ensembles like musikFabrik and Ensemble Modern and is a member of the trio POING. POING has taken him on tours throughout the world, with premieres of more than 70 works and collaborations with musicians of nearly all genres. In 2011, POING were artistic leaders and artists in residence for the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, the largest festival of its kind in Scandinavia. Thelin’s main interest now lies in contemporary music and folk music, and in the sonic exploration of harmonics and multiphonics. The 2004 solo recording A preference to other things presented works by Iannis Xenakis, Bent Sørensen and Jacob Druckman. His second solo release Light, which features his own compositions, was released in 2011. Light was awarded the Norwegian Grammy ‘Spellemannprisen’ for ‘Best contemporary music’ album of 2011. Together with Norwegian folk singer Unni Løvlid he released the record LUX in 2013.
