Great voice from a small island state.
Apparently Eivør Pálsdóttir (b. 1983, Syðrugøta, Faroe Islands) learned to sing before she learned to walk. Growing up singing traditional Faroese folk songs would gradually yield results: Eivør had her first TV-appearance when she was 13, and the same year she won a national song competition.
Eivør won the 2021 Nordic Council Music Prize and has to date released 17 albums. She sings in both Faroese and English, and her voice – often described as delicate, stirring, and ethereal – has brought her recognition and fans from all over the world. Eivør’s compositions have also appeared in movies and TV series such as Game of Thrones and The Last Kingdom. In 2020, Eivør released the studio album Segl, followed by a live version in 2021.
The Faroese’s musical roots are firmly planted in the folk music of her homeland, but you will find anything from jazz, country, and big band to classical music and trip hop in her extensive catalogue. Eivør is known for captivating live performances with a warm and vibrant presence, and she made great success as part of the Nordvegen concert series during the 2018 Bergen International Festival.
In the venerable and atmospheric Håkonshallen, you can experience Eivør with her band. She will also perform in duo format with keyboardist Mathias Kapnas in the historical trading post of Skjerjehamn north of Bergen Saturday 28 May.
