Gjermund Larsen
Norwegian Peasant Dance before and after Grieg.
The Norwegian fiddler-composer Gjermund Larsen presents a broad spectrum of music in this solo recital.
At Troldhaugen he performs highlights from the traditional music that he grew up with in Verdal. He will also play some of his own compositions, in which traditional music forms an essential basis, but is speckled with inspiration from classical music and other genres.
As a composer Edvard Grieg was closely influenced by Norwegian traditional music, but he sought to create new music inspired by folk songs and dances.
'In this concert you will hear music by Grieg and Bull, possibly played in a way you have never heard before. And perhaps also Bach in resounding Verdal dialect,' says Gjermund Larsen.
With a long list of prizes and nominations to his name, both as an artist and as a composer, along with extensive concert performances with the Gjermund Larsen Trio, as a solo artist and as a concert soloist, Larsen has been referred to as one of Norway's greatest musicians.
