A talk and film premiere on music and the home.
The large area of nature at Siljustøl was Harald Sæverud's most important source of inspiration. Ole Bull's summer residence on Lysøen Island is filled with sheet music, instruments and treasured ornaments that bear witness to an interesting and diverse life. In his villa at Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg's grand piano stands where it stood during the composer's lifetime, surrounded by art and books. But what did home mean to Bergen's famous composers?
In the spring of 2022, the Edvard Grieg Vocal Ensemble travelled to Kode's three composer's homes at Troldhaugen, Siljustøl and Lysøen, where they performed the composers' music in their homes. The audience was elderly people who had all moved from their homes. The whole experience was documented in the film Hva er et hjem? (meaning "What is a home?", duration 20 min), directed by Kieran Kolle from Aldeles.
This evening explores both our physical and more abstract relationship with home. There is a growing number of elderly people in Norway, many of whom will have to live at home for longer. But what exactly is a home? And how can we come home in music?
Before the film premiere of Hva er et hjem? there will be a mini-concert by the Edvard Grieg Vocal Ensemble and a conversation about what a home is and can be when life nears the end. The conversation is led by ageing activist and psychologist Anna Helle-Valle, who is joined by guests. After the film, there will be an opportunity to ask the panel questions.
The event will be held in Norwegian.
