Lise Davidsen & Leif Ove Andsnes
Grieg's Haugtussa, Strauss and Wagner performed by two of Norway’s greatest international artists.
Throughout the corona period soprano Lise Davidsen and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes have harvested brilliant reviews for their concerts together. In January 2022 they released their Grieg album – their first recording collaboration – centred on the Haugtussa song cycle.
In the coming winter and spring they will be touring together, visiting London, Madrid, Vienna and Berlin before returning home to Grieghallen in Bergen. Lise Davidsen, who has been referred to as 'the voice of the century' in the international press, has to her credit a Gramophone cover and was designated 'Female Singer' of 2020–21 by International Opera Awards. Through his career of over thirty years Leif Ove Andsnes has established a long list of successes, and is acknowledged worldwide as one of the greatest pianists alive today. This is the first time they appear together at the Bergen International Festival.
The concert programme consists of excerpts from their Grieg album, from Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder and from the songs dedicated by Richard Strauss to his wife on the occasion of their marriage. With two musical greats joining forces to interpret Norwegian heritage and German lieder, there can be little doubt that the result will be anything other than exquisite.
