Mary Lattimore
Mary Lattimore conjures up dreamy, loop-based music on her 47-string Lyon & Healy concert harp, which can transport any listener into a trance. The American artist grew up with a mother who taught classical harp, but Mary's predilection for grunge and rock music destined her to choose a slightly different direction for career as a harpist.
Many years and strings later, Mary Lattimore, with her avant-garde playing style, is a favourite in underground environments worldwide. The titles tell the tales of her comprehensive tours with her harp: at Kulturhuset she performs music from her albums Silver Ladders, At the Dam, Hundreds of Days and Collected Pieces.
She claims that mastery of the instrument involves being able to perform on the entire construction; with large steel rings and polished nails she does just that, using the wooden frame and other parts not normally used to make music. She uses a loop pedal to repeat the sounds she plays on the harp, and from these beginnings flow the songs of the musician, starting gently and softly and developing into a more warped sound in a light, flowing sonic maelstrom.
