In 2019, the legendary Miles Davis album, Kind of Blue, celebrated 60 years since its release. To mark the anniversary, the Oslo Jazz Festival invited Mathias Eick to re-interpret the songs from the album. Kind of Blue is one of the most important crossroads in jazz, where Miles Davis said goodbye to be-bop and stepped into a laid-back, melodic and lyrical landscape.
With a broad musical background, Mathias Eick should be well suited for the task – he releases his own music on ECM, was a member of Jaga Jazzist and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, and has worked with Chick Corea and Manu Katché. Fabulous music from superb musicians!
Mathias Eick would have performed at USF Verftet on the opening day of this year's Nattjazz. Alas, this could not happen this year – but we are happy and proud to be able to stream this treat of a concert from Håkonshallen directly home to you instead.
This concert will also be broadcast on NRK and bt.no
