Nobuyuki Tsujii I
Moonlight on Troldhaugen.
The Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii has acquired an international reputation for the passion he brings to every single concert.
Nobu, born blind, demonstrated a unique musical talent from a very early age. At the age of two he played 'Do Re Mi' on a toy piano after hearing his mother hum the tune, and at the age of twelve he was gave his first concert in the celebrated Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
His international career kicked off in earnest when he won the joint Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009, and the list of prestigious orchestras and conductors he has performed with is most impressive. Last year alone he performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl and in Carnegie Hall.
Nobuyuki Tsujii appears at two concerts at Troldhaugen during the 2023 Bergen International Festival; first this concert in Troldsalen followed by a concert in Grieg's villa. Beethoven's dreamy Moonlight Sonata and several of Grieg's Lyric Pieces are on the programme at both concerts, and in Troldsalen he concludes with works by Franz Liszt.
