Nobuyuki Tsujii II

Past events:

Grieg on music sheets for ears.

Japanese Nobuyuki Tsujii, blind from birth, is an international concert pianist known for his exuberant and passionate live performances worldwide and an extensive discography.

In reviews of his concerts there are numerous references to audiences and critics having difficulty holding back their tears. He learns new pieces by listening to specially made sound files, in which the music is divided into small sections for each hand – his own music sheets for ears – and plays complex works from the entire concert repertoire for piano from memory.

During the 2023 Bergen International Festival Nobuyuki Tsujii gives two concerts at Troldhaugen; the first in Troldsalen and the second in Grieg's Villa. He performs Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, Wedding Day at Troldhaugen and several of Grieg's Lyric Pieces on both occasions. On Grieg's own piano in the villa he concludes with three works by Frédéric Chopin.

'It was one of those rare performances where player and music seem one – a definition of virtuosity …' – THE OBSERVER
