Two of Norway's most distinct jazz trios share the stage for the first time.
The first part of the evening's performance is by Sigurd Hole Trio (Sigurd Hole, double bass; Håkon Aase, violin; Jarle Vespestad, drums). They released their debut album Encounters in April 2018, to outstanding national and international reviews. Their music may be described as an open, innovative meeting between elements from Norwegian, Indian, Japanese, and Arabic traditional music – solidly rooted in a modern, Scandinavian jazz sound.
Hole and Vespestad are also members of the Tord Gustavsen Trio, the evening's second act. Gustavsen, the pianist, is one of Norway's most renowned jazz musicians, with a Spellemannspris, the 'Norwegian Grammy Award', and an American Billboard top ten ranking among his achievements. The trio's musical expression is sensitive, melodious, and intense and their tunes influenced by traditions like Scandinavian folk music, French impressionism, Caribbean music, and hymns.
The evening ends, naturally, in an excellent session with all musicians on stage.
