Next event:
Innovative Icelandic pianist.

Vikingur Ólafsson, born in 1984, has over the last few years taken the world by storm, thanks to his innovative style and explosive virtuoso playing. In 2018 he released the album Johann Sebastian Bach, which BBC Music Awards named Album of the Year in 2019. The Gramophone maintained that the album was 'one of the best Bach recordings ever', choosing him as Artist of the Year.

Vikingur Ólafsson has performed with major orchestras, including the LA Philharmonic, the Philharmonia (London) and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. He has also participated in the production of two television series about classical music, and has established his own chamber music festival in Iceland.

This is the first time he appears as a soloist at the Bergen International Festival. In Håkonshallen he performs works by Debussy and Rameau featured on his latest album, released in 2020.

Vikingur Ólafsson is also the soloist in Edvard Grieg's A minor Piano Concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2020 Festival.
