The Nordvegen Journey
As part of the 2017 Bergen International Festival, artists Ivar Bjørnson and Einar Selvik traveled the fjords with the concert series Nordvegen, their musical celebration of the Norse era and the people and nature of Norway. Relive the journey with photos, tales and a playlist curated by the creators!
Hotel Ullensvang was the venue for the very first Nordvegen concert, and both hotel guests, locals and reviewers were mesmerized by the concert series first world premiere in stunning surroundings.
Bekkjarvik: The old harbour, a centuries-old landmark and destination for trade and travel, hosted the second concert of Nordvegen. Looking up on the four Viking burial mounds on the top of Kongsfjellet, Bekkjarvik provided the best surroundings for the concert, drawing on history, scenery and culinary experiences.
The event started with an historic walk up to Kongsfjellet and the old burial mounds to see and learn about the origin and history of these iconic landmarks.
Bekkjarvik provided the second of three Nordvegen-concerts leading up to the commissioned work Hugsjá, which will receive its world premiere in Grieghallen on Wednesday 31 May. Inside the Henggjo, Ivar and Einar performed their music, while elaborating on the rich history of Bekkjarvik, Nordvegen and the people of fjords. Expanding on this was dr.phil. Bergsveinn Birgirsson, the author of Den Svarte Viking.
