Anders Beyer is appointed Professor II at the University of Bergen

On February 20, Anders Beyer was appointed to what is called a Professor II position at the Faculty of Arts, Music and Design (KMD) at the University of Bergen (UiB). Such an appointment means that he is linked with KMD in a 20% position which commences on May 1 this year.

'I am incredibly happy that we have Anders Beyer with us on our team. Our faculty is still in an establishment phase, and we believe Anders has very much to contribute now', says Professor Frode Thorsen, dean of the Faculty of Arts, Music and Design.

The faculty wishes to involve Beyer as a resource across subjects and disciplines at all levels. For example, he will be a resource in open lectures and seminars that are related to festival curation and leadership and development of cultural institutions.

'I also believe that, with his broad international involvement and network, he will be an important strategic advisor, both for KMD in particular and for the University of Bergen in general', says Thorsen.

'Great ambitions and strong academic environments help make UiB a spearhead in research and dissemination. I am proud and humbled to be affiliated with the innovative and creative university environment in Bergen', says festival director Anders Beyer.

Beyer has previously been an external lector at the University of Copenhagen.

'Through the Bergen International Festival, I have collaborated with the University of Bergen on several occasions and gradually gained experience with the extremely competent and interesting teacher and student environments that exist at UiB. I am excited about the university's strong anchoring in society and in the vitality of life. Research finds a serious legitimacy when it unfolds in a social context. Then we understand how crucial it is that we have strong, independent research environments which can contribute to the cohesion of society', says Beyer.

He plans to spend holidays and leisure time on his work for KMD, and the position does not entail any changes for his job as festival director.
