The 2019 Festival opening performance is premiering at Opéra national du Rhin, under the name 'Solveig (L’attente)'.

In France, soprano Mari Eriksmoen is back in the role of Solveig, and Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Eivind Gullberg Jensen. The performance is in Norwegian, with French and German surtitles.

'It's touching to hear the choir sing Grieg's songs in Norwegian,' says Mari Eriksmoen on Instagram.

With playwright Henrik Ibsen's Peer GyntOpéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg is next, where the performance will be played on 19, 20, 22 and 23 September.

Opéra national du Rhin has asked people on the street to hum a bit of Grieg's music while waiting for the premiere, and published rehearsal photos which demonstrate that measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus are in place.

'Waiting' was a commisson for the 2019 Bergen International Festival, and a co-production with Tivoli Copenhagen, Teatro Arriaga de Bilbao, Gothenburg Symfony Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra and Vilnius Festival.
