  • We are looking for musicians for the mentoring programme Classical Link

Cellist Amalie Stalheim and the Bergen International Festival continues the collaboration on Classical link in 2024.

With Classical link, The Bergen International Festival and Amalie Stalheim wishes to create a link between classical traditions and newer expressions. Stalheim often commissions new works for cello and works closely with the composers. She has garnered valuable knowledge about collaborations on new works, on being a musician and on how to collate programmes that bridge the gap between the past and present.

The Bergen International Festival is a creative meeting place for both composers and musicians, and an important international arena for performances of new works.

In 2023, Amalie Stalheim initiated a mentoring programme for young string players, and it was given the name Classical link. The Festival wished to contribute and connected the programme with the talent initiative for young composers (previously Luna Composition Lab).

In order to increase the musicians' skills on their way to a professional career, there will be given open masterclasses in Classical link, where the chosen participants will work with concerts that include both new and older repertoaire. The programme will take place during the Bergen International Festival between 23 and 28 May 2024.

The finale will be a concert in the University Aula and the audience here will be the first to experience the music to be created and played by young, up-and-coming composers and musicians during the Festival days.

There will be chosen three young musicians for Classical link in 2024.

The application deadline has passed (20 January 2024).
