Shoji Yamasaki’s LITTERED MVMNTS O’CLOCK at Torgallmenningen.
As part of the Bergen International Festival outdoor programme at Torgallmenningen, which is renamed Festallmenningen for the occasion, a series of video works by artist Shoji Yamasaki will be shown on the main stage screen every hour for 14 hours daily, from Thursday 28 May to Sunday 7 June.
Yamasaki’s series LITTERED MVMNTS consists of split-screen videos of litter dancing in the wind alongside videos of the artist himself mimicking the trash’s movements and appearance. The works have engaged millions of viewers worldwide through social media.
During the Festival period, Torgallmenningen will be transformed with playgrounds, large-scale concerts, and public events. In between these programmes, LITTERED MVMNTS will appear on the screen in a durational format unfolding across the Festival square period. This presentation is titled LITTERED MVMNTS O’CLOCK.
LITTERED MVMNTS explores the relationship between waste made by humans and the environment.
“We have stepped into an era where we, and future generations, all must learn to coexist with man-made trash." writes the artist.
Shoji Yamasaki hopes his work will contribute to the cultural shift of having the environmental responsibility be an ingrained value for those living on the sole planet we call home.
