Gómez-Egaña will examine the subterranean space as a site for extraction, power, and historical oppression through a comprehensive installation spanning four galleries of Bergen Kunsthall.
The Festival Exhibition is considered one of the country’s most important solo exhibitions. It is curated and produced by Bergen Kunsthall and has run in parallel with the Bergen International Festival since its inception in 1953.
With the Festival Exhibition 2027, Gómez-Egaña continues his interest in the surface as a place of friction and displacement, where the visible continually points towards something that lies below, behind, or beyond that of the immediate. The extensive new body of work examines the relationships between that of the geological, the human, and the infrastructural. Fragments from everyday life meet references to mining, material extraction, and subterranean labour through displacements and distortions of surfaces, objects, and architectural elements.
The exhibition is titled "GEODEATH" and opens on Thursday 27 May 2027.
Gómez-Egaña has for many years distinguished himself both nationally and internationally as an innovative and boundary-breaking artist. In his striking productions, poetry and politics, fun and seriousness, the immediate and the complex converge in works that seem to defy gravity. About the artist
Pedro Gómez-Egaña was born in Colombia and resides and works in Oslo. He holds a PhD in Visual Arts from the University of Bergen (2012) and is a professor of sculpture and installation at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.
His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (2026), MIT List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge (2025), Podium Oslo (2023), KODE Kunstmuseer in Bergen (2021), and Yarat Contemporary in Baku (2019). He has also participated in group exhibitions at the Lyon Biennial, the Steirischer Herbst Festival in Graz, the Istanbul Biennial, the Contour Biennial, Performa 13 in New York, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO), the Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Oslo, the KochiMuziris Biennial, the Marrakech Biennial, the Brussels Biennial, and Colomboscope in Sri Lanka, among others.

About the Festival Exhibition
The Festival Exhibition is one of Norway’s most significant contemporary art exhibitions and is considered one of the most prestigious commissions for an artist based in Norway. The exhibition holds a central position in Bergen’s cultural life and directs the attention of both Norwegian and international art communities toward the city. The Festival Exhibition is curated and produced by Bergen Kunsthall. In 2027 it will be staged for the seventy-fifth time, following its establishment in 1953, the same year as the first edition of the Bergen International Festival (Festspillene i Bergen).
