Piano mentoring at the highest level.
For five days, pianists Håvard Gimse, Bertrand Chamayou and Leif Ove Andsnes will work with selected Norwegian and international piano students who are at the beginning of their careers.
Prof. Jiri Hlinka Piano Academy was established in 2008 and its founder, Prof. Jiri Hlinka, celebrates his 80th birthday this spring. He has been instrumental for the development of the Norwegian piano scene and has taught many of the most prominent pianists in Norway today. The professor came to Norway from the Czech Republic in 1972 and is referred to as Norway's great piano key wizard.
"I met a Slavic bomb of a Czech that taught me that life and death is to be found in every single note", Leif Ove Andsnes has said.
Both Gimse and Andsnes have themselves been mentored by Prof. Jiri Hlinka, and are artistic advisors of the academy, and like French mentor Chamayou, they are all sought-after soloists and chamber musicians with extensive international experience.
These open masterclasses take place in Rasmussen Samlingene's venues, and they lead up to a Masterclass concert in Troldsalen, the concert hall at Edvard Grieg's home at Troldhaugen. At the concert, both masterclass participants and Hlinkas former students – Leif Ove Andsnes, Håvard Gimse, Christian Ihle Hadland and Geir Botnen – will participate on stage in the celebration of the professor's 80th birthday.
