Indie pop for janissary band.
The band Razika formed in 2006 at Møhlenpris in Bergen and is known for catchy pop songs such as Vondt i hjertet, En sjanse til and Om igjen. The group released four albums, all of which were nominated for a Spellemann Award. In 2019, the band parted ways, but their music lives on with a new generation – in a new guise.
The Møhlenpris school band (Møhlenpris skolekorps) was established around the time that Razika called it a day. The school band was formed in order to supplement the city's youth sports offers and consists of 45 children from the third grade and up. At the concert at the Festival square, they are joined by Razika vocalist and guitarist Marie Amdam, who is a former student at Møhlenpris school.
Last autumn, the band's Razika project saw its world premiere at Bajazz in celebration of the school band's fifth anniversary. The arrangement is written by saxophonist Michael Barnes.
"Razika's music is a part of the neighbourhood, and we wanted to connect with the close musical history of it," says chairman of the school band, Christian Hjelle.
"It feels very right and fun that the music lives on with the new generation." – MARIE AMDAM
