Grieg's Children's songs
with Primula Veris
Festival square
Children’s songs from the summer of 1894.
In 1890, author Nordahl Rolfsen wrote a new textbook for primary schools, using clear and accessible Norwegian language to help children learn to read. Edvard Grieg was invited to make music for some of the poems in the book, and published seven of them as Barnlige Sange (Children's songs). The book was used in schools right up until 1950 and includes beloved melodies such as Fola, fola Blakken.
Primula Veris, the vocal class from the Grieg Academy, will visit the Festival square with this beautiful song heritage on the programme, along with a selection of traditional Norwegian folk tunes.
