Grieg’s villa opens for an exclusive extra concert.

Pianist Alexander Gadjiev has distinguished himself as one of the foremost of his generation, and the Festival concerts will be his first in Norway. 'A spring in his step, conveying an exceptional degree of urgency,' Gramophone wrote of his album Legends, released in August 2025.

Gadjiev’s concert in Troldsalen sold out long before this year’s Festival. When, in collaboration with Kode, this opportunity arose to perform in the villa at Troldhaugen on Grieg’s own piano, the pianist seized it with both hands.

The programme consists of a selection of Grieg’s works that Gadjiev also performs in Troldsalen, in addition to Ravel’s Oiseaux tristes. In the villa, this music is combined with music by Tchaikovsky, Schubert and Chopin.

There will also be an exclusive extra concert in Grieg’s villa during this year’s Festival with pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason on Friday 5 June.

About Grieg’s villa

Grieg’s villa is undergoing an extensive restoration that began in autumn 2025. The exterior has been completed, and the scaffolding has been removed, and the villa is returned to its original colour. The villa will remain closed until 2027 while interior work is carried out.

For the first time in 100 years, the house has been emptied of all its historical furnishings, apart from Grieg’s piano, which will be unpacked for the Festival. The concert experience will therefore have a different atmosphere, both compared to earlier concerts and to how it will be once the renovation is finished.
