Bergen youth brigade marches

with The Norwegian Naval Forces Band

Tradition and drumming take centre stage as Bergen’s youth brigade take over at the Festival square on Buekorpsenes Dag (The Bergen Youth Brigade's Day), with competitions, a parade and finals.

To kick off the finals, there will be a large concert with 12 youth brigade marches at the town square. The host is Norwegian musician Tarjei Strøm, who began his own drumming career in the youth brigade, and the stage will be filled by the Norwegian Naval Forces Band.

Lyrics have been written for these marches, and a choir from Bergen Cultural School will sing from stage, and in front there will be primary school choirs connected to the youth brigades’ neighborhoods will sing along to their respective march. Joining them on the Festival square are the Bergen youth brigades, as well as related clubs and associations, who all carry the proud tradition forward.

The day consists of three parts: competitions for drummers and flag bearers in the morning, a parade from Bergenhus Fortress to the town square in the afternoon, followed by the finals where the city’s best drummer and flag bearer will be crowned.
