Sonatas and romances in the King’s residence.

Cellist Clara Yuna Friedensburg from Oslo has already embarked on an international career, winning prizes and scholarships and performing as a soloist with orchestras. She has studied at Germany’s renowned Kronberg Academy, and takes part in Podium, the talent programme for young classical artists at the highest level. Joining her at Gamlehaugen is Ole Christian Haagenrud, an established pianist who has appeared at the Festival on a number of occasions, most recently in 2024 with the Grieg project Concert 1906

Together, they fill the hall at Gamlehaugen with sonatas by George Enescu and Johannes Brahms, as well as a romance by Clara Schumann.

'Enescu’s second cello sonata reveals a rich, modernist voice with striking rhythmic contrasts, while Clara Schumann’s romance unfolds a warm and poetic soundscape. The concert concludes with Brahms’ monumental second cello sonata – a work of profound emotional depth and symphonic power,' the cellist explains.

In 2026, Bergen International Festival presents a series of five concerts at Gamlehaugen featuring young string players and pianists participating at the Festival Academy of Bergen – an annual meeting place for the artists of tomorrow. Clara Yuna Friedensburg also appears at the Festival in concert with cellist and mentor Amalie Stalheim at Det Vestnorske Teateret.
