The legacy of Grieg, and works by Adolf Hansen.

When the Nordic Wind Orchestra and conductor Andreas Hanson take the stage at Festallmenningen, the concert is dedicated to a central figure in Bergen’s musical life, Adolf Hansen. As chief conductor of the Brigade Band in Bergen, Hansen left a big impression, and several of his premieres took place at the Music Pavilion, just a few hundred metres from the Festival square.

The audience can look forward to a festive concert with rousing marches, lyrical melodies and historical connections. The programme includes arrangements of music by Edvard Grieg, the serenade Hansen wrote for Nina and Edvard Grieg’s silver wedding anniversary, as well as several marches dedicated to the Bergen region.

The orchestra will also perform a larger concert in the University Aula, with soloist Eldbjørg Hemsing in Kurt Weill’s Violin Concerto, as well as music by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Igor Stravinsky and Edgar Varèse.

About Nordic Wind Orchestra

The Nordic Wind Orchestra brings together some of the Nordic region’s leading wind players with a shared ambition to explore new concert formats. The musicians work daily in Nordic orchestras and ensembles, and share a strong passion for story telling and a desire to reach a broad audience. Conductor Andreas Hanson is a clear advocate for the wind repertoire. He regularly appears with the Nordic symphony orchestras and has previously been chief conductor of, among others, the Royal Norwegian Navy Band, the Swedish Army Band and the Norwegian Armed Forces Staff Band.
