One of the stars at the 2013 Bergen International Festival will be counter-tenor Andreas Scholl, who will be performing music he has known since childhood.
- Over the years, the Bergen International Festival has developed a unique relationship with some of the worlds greatest artists. Andreas Scholl performs to packed concert halls all over the world and is unanimously acclaimed by critics. I am looking forward to presenting his new project of German lieder to the enthusiastic Bergen audience, says Festival director Anders Beyer.
The exceptional counter-tenor Andreas Scholl will perform in the historic Håkonshallen on 27 May 2013 with his personal interpretations of the romantic German song repertoire. Accompanied by his wife, Tamar Halperin, he will present songs by Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and Brahms, all featured on his latest recording Wanderer. This is a repertoire he knows well from his childhood and the mixed choir his father conducted.
- Some of the Brahms songs on the record I sang as a child, in a simpler arrangement for choir. I knew the songs and the melodies and it was nice to come back to them after so many years, says Andreas Scholl in his presentation of the recording, which is launched this month.
The award-winning singer and his pianist, Tamar Halperin, are in high demand at all the major concert venues in Europe and North America, but also wanted to return to Bergen. During his last visit, to the 2011 Bergen International Festival, Andreas Scholl captivated the audience with his expressive performance and gave the full house a number of encores.
