Grieg Foundation renews partnership

Grieg Foundation has renewed its partnership with the Bergen International Festival through 2027. The long-term support helps ensure the continued development of the much-loved free public arena, the Festival square, located in the heart of the city.

During the Festival, Torgallmenningen is transformed into a vibrant and welcoming urban space featuring a stage, seating areas, and a diverse programme. For eleven days, the square is filled with daily events, concerts, and performances across a wide range of genres, as well as dedicated play and activity areas for children. With its low threshold and free access, Festallmenningen has become a key meeting place during the Festival, offering cultural experiences for audiences of all ages.

For more than 20 years, the Grieg Foundation has contributed a wide range of gifts to the people of Bergen through its support of the Bergen International Festival. Festallmenningen was first introduced as part of the 2022 celebrations marking major anniversaries for both the Foundation, Per Grieg Sr., and the Festival. From the outset, it was clear that the city’s residents embraced the free outdoor programme of concerts, family performances, playgrounds, and colourful installations. In the years that followed, Festallmenningen was further developed through a three-year funding commitment from the Grieg Foundation, and this partnership has now been extended for an additional two years, covering 2026–2027.
