French visionary.

The French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard is known for shedding fresh light on early music, often through creatively curated programmes. In Håkonshallen he presents a concert that draws connections from Bach to Schubert and Schumann, and on to Schönberg.

He has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious international Ernest von Siemens Music Prize in 2017 for his lifetime of service to music, and the 2022 Léonie Sonning's Music Prize, the most prominent music award in Denmark, and in connection with which he was celebrated with his own portrait festival.

'With an artistic signature embracing sonorously sensitive sound, sparkling expressiveness and precision, and an extremely sharp intellect, he pushes the boundaries of the pianist's art. With visionary programmes that combine composers of different eras, Pierre-Laurent Aimard has inspired new interpretations of well-known classics and communicated the qualities of lesser-known works,' said the chairman of the jury in the speech to the prize winner.

Aimard is also known for his close collaboration with composers including Stockhausen, Messiaen, and Ligeti, and is considered an undisputed authority on contemporary music.
