Dark folk from a Swedish cult band.

Norse-inspired folk rock infused with electronic impulses and Emma Härdelin’s vocals has earned Garmarna cult status among fans worldwide.

Active since 1990, Garmarna has blazed a trail through the dark of the forests for bands and artists such as Wardruna, Eivør, and Heilung. Over the years, songs like Herr Mannelig, Vänner och fränder, and Varulven have garnered millions of streams.

Drawing on folklore from a pan-Nordic landscape, the group gives Swedish folk music from past centuries a modern guise. The band members have also engaged in a wide range of artistic collaborations, including interpretations of medieval composer Hildegard von Bingen and newly written works for The Operating Tracks, The Brides of the Black Room, the Kronos Quartet, and Joakim Thåström.

The band’s name comes from Norse mythology, a plural form of Garm, the hound guarding the realm of the dead, Helheim. When they finally take the stage in Bergen for one of their rare concerts, there could hardly be a more fitting venue than Håkonshallen.
