  • Pussy Riot Exhibition Opens In Bergen
May 24, 2014

The artists Lusine Djanyan and Aleksej Knedlyakovsky visit the Bergen International Festival with the rest of the Pussy Riot entourage to exhibit THE WHITE CIRCLE. The exhibition opens in KODE 4 on Saturday 24 May at 15:00. The artists, Maria Aljokhina and Nadezjda Tolokonnikova will be attending.

The exhibition THE WHITE CIRCLE is an installation where the visitors enter a circle of 500 cardboard figures. The exhibition reflects rallies in Russian cities from the period 2007–2012, and the cardboard characters are placeholders for people who, because of security concerns, are seldom able to demonstrate themselves. The exhibition reflects protests against the church, the power of the state and corruption. Due to censorship, the installation has not been shown in Russia in its entirety.

The artist Luisne Djanyan, who is a part of the Pussy Riot movement, was dismissed from her position at the art school in Krasnodar. She was attacked during a Pussy Riot demonstration during the Olympic Games in Sochi. The exhibition is a collaboration with the artist Aleksej Knedlyakovsky, who was a member of the art group Vojna.

The exhibition has just been shown in Uppsala, Sweden, and will be exhibited at KODE 4 during the Bergen International Festival.
