Vær meg fremmed
by Arne Lygre
A new play by one of Norway’s greatest living playwrights.
What does it mean to be strangers to one another, and how does one move from being a stranger to becoming something else? Arne Lygre’s brand-new play gathers a group of characters around an art installation set in nature. Their encounters are woven together with conversations they have had with people dear to them, creating a world where new acquaintances mirror close friends.
Born in Bergen, Arne Lygre is one of Norway’s greatest living playwrights. His plays have been translated into more than twenty languages, reaching a global audience. He has received the International Ibsen Award twice, as well as two Hedda Awards, and became the first Norwegian playwright to be nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize.
Experiencing the premiere of a Lygre play ‘feels like a historic moment’, the newspaper Aftenposten wrote upon reviewing Ikkje ein lyd, which premiered in 2025. The world premiere of Vær meg fremmed is directed by Stéphane Braunschweig, one of France’s most experienced and influential directors, who has staged six of Lygre’s plays in France.
