Swedish star soprano in an intimate evening of lieder at Troldhaugen.
Still in her mid-thirties, Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson is already the Metropolitan Opera’s Aida of choice and, since her 2024 Bayreuth debut as Freia in Das Rheingold, one of the most sought-after lyric sopranos of our time.
For this recital at Troldhaugen, Nilsson is joined by her regular pianist Magnus Svensson for a journey through some of the most exquisite gems of the song repertoire, starting with Hugo Wolf’s dark, secretive and rarely-heard Mignon songs.
A taste of Scandinavia comes courtesy of Ture Rangström’s intensely personal songwriting style and Edvard Grieg’s distilled and direct songs, including his iconic Last Spring and At Rondane.
Nilsson ends with a composer whose luxuriant and searching music requires the utmost artistry. Richard Strauss’s poignant and radiant settings of verse by Adolf Friedrich Graf von Schack will reveal the brilliance, sheen and delicacy of the Swedish soprano’s voice like none others.
