In 2024 Njioma Chinyere Grevious was named both a Classic FM Rising Star and winner of the Avery Fisher Grant. For this recital at Troldhaugen, the violinist who is being booked by the world’s major concert halls joins one of Norway’s most compelling pianists , Ole Christian Haagenrud.
Grevious and her 1679 Guarneri violin star in a programme ranging from Johann Sebastian Bach to Clarence Cameron White. From the former composer we hear the most resourceful and tuneful of his sonatas for solo violin while White’s piece, made famous by Jascha Heifetz, weaves African-American spirituals and folk songs into a dance every bit a spirited as the scherzo by Brahms that comes in between the two.
Grevious and Haagenrud also include Mozart’s most heartfelt and moving violin sonata, possibly written in response to his mother’s death. As a salute to their surroundings, they end with the most dramatic of Grieg’s three violin sonatas, written in 1887 on the brink of the composer’s worldwide fame.

Bus to Troldsalen
