  • Hats Off To The Opening Ceremony

May 23, 2010

The Festival opening is both ceremony, artistic teaser and an opportunity for extravagant headwear. At least according to host Marit Voldsæter – currently choosing appropriate hats for the event.

– It’s all about combining festive and funny, and making it all work together, she says.

The opening ceremony is performed by HRH King Harald, patron of the Bergen International Festival. Artistic elements include excerpts from the opera Anne Pedersdotter, performances by His Majesty the King’s guard and a live performance combining ship horns, church bells and trumpet.

Admission to this year’s ceremony is free, there are no age restrictions and you don’t even need a ticket. It will take place at the outdoors at Koengen next to Bergenhus Fortress. Festival director Per Boye Hansen can’t wait.

– This is a fantastic way to include the whole city, he says.
