Grieg, Holmsen, Tveitt, Schubert and Kapustin.

This concert opens in the musical landscape of Western Norway and the Norwegian romantic tradition with music by Geirr Tveitt and Borghild Holmsen. Both composers drew inspiration from folk tunes and the landscapes that surrounded them.

The atmosphere then turns intimate and melodic with Franz Schubert’s Impromptu No. 3.

“It will be exciting to perform a piece like this outdoors, right in the life of the city. I hope it can create a small moment of stillness and reflection in everything happening around us,” says Ole Christian Haagenrud.

As the last spring evening of the year unfolds, Haagenrud performs much-loved piano pieces by Edvard Grieg, inspired by Norwegian nature, folk melodies and fairy tales. The musical journey ends with the rhythmic, jazz-inspired Variations by Nikolai Kapustin.

Pianist Ole Christian Haagenrud, born in Bergen and with a special affinity for Grieg’s music, performs in several concerts during this year’s Bergen International Festival. On the Festival square he performs with violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing at the Festival square and in Colors of Bach in Håkonshallen, with the young violinist Henning Felde Haldorsen, and at Gamlehaugen he joins cellist Clara Yuna Friedensburg in concert. Audiences can also hear Haagenrud on the Festival square in Musical Fantasies for the youngest audiences.
