To be or not to be.
Shakespeare’s most quoted line refers to something fundamentally human: the question of life’s meaning when faced with grief and despair. In a solo version of Hamlet, Mark Lockyer invites us to pose new questions about the timeless classic. What can the play tell us about the human mind? How do we understand madness when it contains both genuine suffering and a disguise?
Ellen Mortensen is Professor Emerita in the field of literature. Magnus Johan Engen is a psychologist and researcher. Together, they explore Hamlet as a mirror of human vulnerability and existential choices. The conversation is moderated by Aslak Hjeltnes, Professor at the Department of Clinical and Biological Psychology at the University of Bergen.
